European officials want new strengths to supervise internal workings at large technology companies such as Facebook Inc., backed by threats of multibillion-dollar fines, as they plan to extend their position as global tech enforcers. The European Union’s executive arm suggested two bills on Tuesday-one concentrated on illegal content, the other on exploitative behavior-that would fuel regulators in some circumstances to impose fines of up to 6% or 10% of annual global revenue, or separate companies to stop certain abuses of competition. The bills don’t bring up any specific company but, as drafted, one or both would possibly apply to numerous large US technology companies including Alphabet Inc’s Google, Amazon.com Inc. Apple Inc. and Facebook.
